Resources
This page is very much a work in progress. Please do email me (keller.brett [at] gmail.com) suggestions for what I should include.
About careers and jobs in public health, aid, and international development:
- Read this first: A very good roundup of blog posts and resources about careers and jobs in aid and development
- Karen Grépin’s “Finding a summer internship in global health” is a must -read.
- Sign up for Alanna Shaikh’s International Development Careers List – for a very small fee you can get specific questions answered, and when you sign up you also get an archive of all the questions that have been asked and answered to date. Alanna now blogs at The World Needs Brave and does career coaching.
- If you haven’t already, click over to Chris Blattman’s blog and read his career advice posts, helpfully linked in the right-hand column under “Advice: Development” and “Advice Academic.”
- Also check out Jordan Schermerhorn’s “Chaos Muppet Strategic Planning: A Guide For Plotting the Rest of Your Life, Terrifying Your Neighbors” for a good read and some useful links.
If you’re an undergrad, consider applying for the Truman Scholarship (you apply during your junior year), which connects you with a truly awesome and diverse group interested in public service.
